The Inventor of Email

The inventor of the email, Ray Tomilson died last week, at the age of 74. Mr Tomilson, from New York, invented the email when working for Bolt, Beranek and Newman in 1971. He asked colleagues to keep it a secret as he was supposed to be working on another project!

A few years ago, he was asked did he regret the negative elements of email, such as SPAM and Phishing. He replied “not at all”, saying that any invention can be used for good or for bad, and that the advantages of email are far greater than the disadvantages.

When asked why he chose the @ sign for emails, he replied that it just seemed logical.

And finally, the all-important question. What was the first email written? “Nothing, just random letters to test if the system was working”.

What is your opinion? Is email a good or a bad thing?
